Connecticut Home Maintenance Tip #1. Examine your home for any maintenance issues. Check the roof for worn shingles, or any leaks around skylights, vents, and chimneys. Areas to check for leaks include door and window frames, exterior openings including electrical outlets and cable TV lines, around heating or cooling unites, and openings around drainpipes in bathrooms and kitchens. Clear out your gutters. Make sure you caulk or repair any gaps, cracks, or holes that need it.
Connecticut Home Maintenance Tip #2 – Fall-specific duties. Have the heating system serviced and change the filters. Drain the hot water heater and remove the sediment from the bottom of the tank. Paint over any repairs while the weather is still warm enough to do it. Any little problems now can become nasty mid-winter surprises.
Connecticut Home Maintenance Tip #3 – In the garden. Add some seasonal color to your garden. Trim back trees and bushes; not only will it improve the appearance, it will reduce the mess. Fall is also a great time to fertilize your lawn- it provides the grass with nutrients required for the winter when the top layer is dormant
Connecticut Home Maintenance Tip #4 – Organize your garage. Garages often become the ideal spot for miscellaneous storage that stacks up in the blink of an eye. Now is the time to restore order before winter sends you indoors. Purge everything you don’t need, and have an end-of-summer yard sale or donate it to charity to get rid of it all.
