Connecticut Home Insurance: New Fire Training Center

For many individuals who have no experience dealing with an uncontrollable fire, it is difficult to understand the risks firefighters take on a daily basis. It is imperative to properly educate and train firefighters in order to save the lives of others, as well as their own. This month, Connecticut’s New Fire Training Center was opened in Bridgeport. Carpentry students from Ballard-Havens Technical High School developed the new fire training center to incorporate two different sections. One half of the fire training center is a real life scaled standard house equipped with two bedrooms, a living room, bathroom, and hallway. They have also begun to integrate obstacles such as toys, electronic devices, and furniture. The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) provided the state of Connecticut with a $45,000 grant to build an obstacle course for the second half of the fire training center. This course was specifically designed for firefighters to strategize and execute dangerous emergency situation tactics such as, crawling through a culvert and safely getting through a window and onto a ladder.  Referencing a 1994 tragedy, the course was as designed for firefighters to practice safe tactics and minimize fatalities.

Connecticut’s new fire training facility is very precise and efficient. There have been 17 firefighters who have received certificates enabling them to teach their peers at the new fire training facility.
